Advent T9610 Desktop PC Review
ADVENT T9610 is a new addition to the ADVENT family.
Unlike other Advent PCs, look wise T9610 Desktop Computer may not be attractive one but it indeed has great features. Hardware and software configuration are not only perfect for your daily use but you have enough room for expansion and upgrade.
Features like Intel Core Duo processor, 250GB Hard Drive, Multi drive DVD writer, 3GB memory card are some of the characteristics worth mentioning.
Reliability is the keyword of this PC.
Ample storage for all your audio and video files as well as photo album makes this system a must have for your family. If you are looking for buying a brand new desktop for your kids or considering upgrade to a new one for your home office Advent T9610 is the best desktop PC around.
Design
Polished with greyish black colour, ADVENT T9610 Desktop PC has a modest look. The DVD/ CD Writer have a shiny black coat that adds some lustre to the dreary looking base unit.
Advent logo is embossed in white and black colour. Power button and HDD activity indicator are located right below the logo. The power button has a glossy finish that makes it standout on the face of a CPU.
The keyboard has a piano- like keys. The colour of the keyboard matches with the CPU colour. Mouse colour has a silvery finish on top and greyish black at the base.
The front side of a CPU is designed to accommodate 2 USB ports, microphone port, and 1 line out port.
At the rear end you will see 4 USB ports, Microphone port, 1 Line in port, 1 headphones port, 1 Serial port, 1 Parallel or Printer port, 1 RJ45 LAN port, and 1 set 7.1 and channel Audio jacks (6 jacks).
The system does not have a trendy look but it does all your work efficiently and quietly.
Inside the PC
As you open this Micro ATX form factor desktop PC you will first come across memory slots. Each of the three slots has 1024MB RAM installed and there are few empty slots for adding another 8GB of RAM. Hard drive component holds up to 250GB of data.
The Sound card installed is Realtek ALC High Definition Audio. The network feature is enabled using Realtek 8139 / 810X network card.
The video feature is made possible by adding NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 256MB PCI-Express Graphics Card.
CD Drive is Dual layer DVD±RW.
The system is powered by Intel Core2 Quad processor that uses Intel G33 + ICH9 chipset with Front Side Bus speed includes 1333 / 1066 / 800 MHz (FSB). The expansion slots are arranged into 1x PCIe x16, 1x PCIe x1, and 2x PCI.
Features
Built on Intel G33 + ICH9 Chipset the system is packed with features like Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor running at 2.4GHz with Front Side Bus (FSB) speed is 1066MHz supplying enough power and speed required for rest of the CPU components. At the heart of the system lies Foxconn G33M05 Viiv Mother Board that provides a base to the entire CPU unit.
Storage is allocated to 250GB. For real time access Memory is preset to 3GB DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM which you can upgrade up to 8GB and 8MB is kept aside for Cache Memory. The card reader is configured to support Flash Memory Card Drive (8 in 1).
The graphics hardware is powered by NVidia® GeForce 8400 GS 256MB PCI-Express Graphics card.
The audio feature is built using 7.1 channels Realtek ALC888 High Definition Audio.
The networking capability is created with GbE LAN with Realtek RTL8110SC technology. But no wireless card is installed.
The CD/DVD drive that is installed with the system is Dual layer DVD±RW.
Though the system does not comes with a monitor but it is bundled with Advent base unit, Advent keyboard, Advent mouse, and UK mains power cable
The software packet includes Microsoft Works 9, Acrobat® Reader, AOL 9.0, Napster, Norton Internet Security 2007 (60 day trial), and Power2Go.
The recovery suite comprises of Windows Vista DVD recovery, Windows Vista hard drive recovery, Windows Vista OOBE, Windows Vista™ recovery DVD creator.

Performance
The system is not meant for heavy duty tasks. But the good thing about this model is the processor which showcases fast performance on all its jobs.
Also, there is a plenty of room for upgrade. But for greater multi-tasking experience expand the RAM to 8GB.
Game lovers can very well use the system without much hurdle. But games meant only for Media Centre PCs may not be as productive on T9610 as less power-hungry games can be on this desktop PC.
Mostly the system works fine without slowing down or freezing up your applications.
The Advent T9610 Computer system is perfect for your home office for doing everyday computing jobs like, word processing, spreadsheets, emailing and browsing the Internet. Even if you have loads of movie files saved up the system works perfect without loosening up the performance.
Downloading movies and at the same time working on your family album won’t give you any weary. Performance is never an issue with any Advent desktop and so with T9610. This Advent PC comes with a warranty of 12 months.
Note that some T9610 desktop PCs are shipped with wrong processor information. Check your system by opening the device manager and looking at the processor information and you will find four entries for a Q6600. If you see two entries for an E4500 and two for a Q6600 delete the E4500 entries and reboot the system after deletion. This task will improve Windows Scheduled Tasks over the different cores.
