Since its founding, the world number three vendor of PCs, Acer has constantly pursued the goal of breaking the barriers between people and technology. Acer has now introduced its new Aspire L3600 Ultra Small Form Factor Desktop PC. Acer Aspire L3600 is powered by 1.6GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor which allows you to enjoy high speed processing. The PC features, 19-inch TFT LCD monitor, 16X Super Multi DVD writer, 5-in-1 Media Card Reader and 160GB SATA hard drive.

Design:

Acer Aspire L3600 desktop PC comes in a piano black plastic body and has a rich look. It is designed to either sit flatly or to be mounted vertically in the stand that is provided. Aspire L3600 certainly will add lust to your living room. The Acer P191WB 19-inch LCD monitor is a good one for most of your computing tasks. It is powered by integrated Intel Graphics Accelerator GMA X3100 graphics chipset with up to 256 MB of shared memory offering up to 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution with the Support of Microsoft DX 9 and OpenGL 1.4. Being a media center PC, it comes with the standard Windows Media Center remote control as well as the wireless keyboard and mouse. A floppy mouse pad is also provided which is highly unfit for a living room mouse operation. This PC has one tenth the size and one fourth the size of a conventional mini tower desktop and consumes only 90W.

Acer Aspire L3600 desktop computer is a small form factor media centre PC with a lot of Intel parts inside and hence comes with a Viiv (a platform initiative from Intel similar to Intel’s Centrino and vPro) badge.

Inside the PC:

When you split open the L3600, you will find a 500GB 7200RPM SATA drive, an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz, with 2GB of memory, all running off the integrated Intel G31 express chipset. A slot loading DVD drive handles the multimedia duties. And the inputs include a multi-card reader, two front side USB 2.0 ports and headphone socket hidden by a front flap.

Features:

The rear side sports 4 USB ports out of which two will be used in default for the keyboard and mouse and also the VGA and DVI ports. The HDMI is absent which is undesirable as it is a media center PC. The L3600 handles audio separately which was prominent with its usage of DVI. It handles the audio separately through the six audio jacks coming from the rear side of the unit. It also supports 1 MB cache memory and hence you can overwrite DVDs using DVD rewriter which has come with dual layer. The package includes a memory card reader which has the ability to read 4 distinct types of memory cards.

Acer Aspire L3600 19 inch Desktop PC features a single integrated dual analogue or the digital TV tuner. This PC ships either with Vista Home Basic which is a Media Center free zone and the Vista Home premium.

Acer Empowering Technology:

Acer Aspire L3600 Ultra Small Form Factor (uSFF) Desktop PC offers the Acer Empowering Technology which includes eRecovery Management, ePerformance Management, eDataSecurity Management, eMode Management and One Button Recovery (OBR). Acer e-Technology provides security, recovery, performance enhancement features which acts as the complete manageability suite for the desktop.

Performance:

As a basic desktop PC, the Acer Aspire L3600 performs well. It does not live up to the mark performance as a media center PC such as the Sony Vaio TP-2. This may be one of the reasons for its cheaper cost. One very evident blot with the PC is that, despite its miniature size, the unit is quite noisy.

Aspired has tried to offer us one half of desktop PC and another half of a media player and has gained only half of the user’s satisfaction.
